thecow and all, it's driving me nuts! My emachine failed and so I took the HD out and turned it into an external HD. I'm using it with my new Compaq. All folders and files on the external HD are accessible, except the ONE folder I need to work with to edit the nesletter for my sailing club.

When trying to do ANYTHING with that folder [copy, move, explore etc] I get this error message

I've rebooted etc. I've made the folder sharable. I'm the admin on my pc.

Any ideas?

PS: MS explains the problem support.microsoft.com

BTW
Bought the Ultra portable HD enclosure for about $30 and plugged in the HD from my failed emachine. Using USB the new pc detected it and I have all my data back :)

The Ultra has a fan, but the plastic case is a bit flimsy for someone who moves it around often [I don't].

That was the easiest pc work I've ever done.
It also works with firewire
