I might change my mind if I ever get some vintage Cubans, but have not yet had the good fortune to smoke any.

I'm not a cigar smoker, but have wondered on occasion if the popularity of Cuban cigars is more of a mix of nostalgia and scarcity than overwhelming quality.

Castro has managed to damage most other areas of the Cuban economy. No reason why it wouldn't be the same for tobacco growing and cigar making.
