Well, there was every legitimate reason to clamp down on Pakistan after 9/11, as you point out...plus had we moved right into the wild Northwest section we could have legitimately chased down every vestige of Bin Laden....then LEFT with little problem. Pakistan's tolerance of the extremists and its exporting of nuclear technology made them legitimate targets for strong action. Unlike Saddam, they had developed and were exporting WMD....if terrorists were ever to get a nuclear bomb, where, truly, was the likely source....Pakistan or Iraq?

Plus, think of how our relationships with India might have improved by a forceful handling of Pakistan...building an even stronger barrier against China....
