I once knew a girl who found out, by accident, documents amongst her adoptive mother's papers that showed she was adopted since she was six months old. After much effort, time and expense, she eventually located her birth mother, and she was ecstatic when she first met her.
Against the wishes of her adoptive parents, she quit her job and left British Columbia to live with her real Mom in Oregon. But she was soon disillusioned as she soon found they could not get along with each other. Her real Mom turned out to be a constant nag, a scold and an "old-fashioned" disciplinarian and a prude. Just after two weeks she had had enough. She returned to her adoptive parents.
Another sad story:
A mother once asked the adoption authorities to help her locate her daughter and her daughter's adoptive parents. Her reason for wanting to see them was that she had some vital intimate health information about her daughter that she wished to share with them.
A meeting was arranged in a theatre where her daughter would be singing, "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life, I Have Found You" before a mystical group. The daughter was told that her real Mom would be seated somewhere in the front row. As she sang, her mother beamed proudly and waved and nodded at her daughter. But much to her chagrin, her daughter did not respond at all. She only found out why when they went backstage. Unbeknownst to her, her daughter had gone blind as a result of an auto accident a few years earlier.
