The subject of control of Congress is a very difficult one. I perceive several bottom lines.

The Contract With America could not have worked if Democrats corruption had not been so apparent in the breaking of the House Bank scandal. Current democrats are trying to recreate this effect by democrats behaving with treachery. Of course since their allies control almost all media they get away with it and the allied media spins the story as if it is Republicans who have the problem.

The Contract With America worked because it was a positive plan with a vision in a time filled with a lot of nothing from Congress. What most republicans plan now seems to be is a game of keep away, "Don't let Pelosi or Reid get control." How much of the judicial confirmation backlog has been cleared away in 2 years? The election 2 years ago seemed to be a mandate for conservative judges, and the backlog is still huge.

Right now there is darn little good coming from Washington. At least with split control we might get more gridlock. I firmly believe "That government that governs least governs best."

Let democrats get the House; they can make fools of themselves and Impeach the President. After they pulled a stunt like that on made up charges, the vote in the Senate would be something like 98 to 2 against removal with only the legally insane voting for removal. Even with the liberally biased formerly mainstream media of the press corpse cheering them on the public would see through the charade and condemn democrats for the pale attempt at payback. Their reputation for corruption would be enhanced and the party might soon cease to exist.

If they took the House Young and Lewis would lose their chairs, and that would not be all bad. They would probably have the sense to eliminate the ethics committee gridlock rules and while they would persecute Republicans, after the landslide Republican victory two years later we could finally evict Jim McDermott and shine some light on Nancy Pelosi's unethical junket filings.

Republicans are playing a defensive game, and while democrats are offensive, they have the media on their side, so things get spun to make them look good. But even the aging diva eventually shows a few wrinkles.

I am not seeing much leadership from either party. In a Local Congressional race were the democrat is favored to win, the incumbent is running mostly ads bragging about pork. Give me something to cheer for; don't try to win me over with dire warning of the coming nuclear winter if Pelosi is the third person in line for President.

At least in 2004 we had a debate about solving some of our largest impending problems. I got excited about the prospect of fixing Social Security. Now we have a debate about what to do about illegal immigration while nothing is done about expanding visa limits to reduce the pressure to immigrate illegally.

I saw an estimate that our current obligations are over Fifty Trillion Dollars. That is a lot of zeros, and the zeros in Washington are adding to it, not subtracting from it.
