so taking bonds for example - the commercials could have heavy short positions but it doesnt mean that bonds are done going up. they just keep adding shorts as the bonds go up further because they know that they are ultimately going to go down and they will collect their money eventually.

so if bonds are done going up then would the signal be that we see commercials starting to reduce their large short positions? or that the positions stay flat meaning that they dont get any more short and it just sits there for a week or two. whats the signal that bonds are about to go down?
