The bigger risk in energy stocks is 5000 nervous hedge funds out there trying to guess where energy prices will go and trading today based on their guess. If it were just a matter of investing in fundamentals, energy would be a no-brainer for a long time to come. I think many, many new hedge funds have lousy single-digit gains this year, if that, and now they are thrashing around trying to come up with some performance before their year closes out. Makes for an ugly, volatile market disconnected from fundamentals.
