Bought the Ultra portable HD enclosure for about $30 yesterday and plugged in the 80 GB Seagate HD from my failed emachine. Using USB, the new pc detected the external HD and I have all my data back :)
[except one folder - a long story. Probably Microsoft's fault]

The Ultra has a fan, but the plastic case is a bit flimsy for someone who moves it around often [I don't].

That was the easiest pc work I've ever done.
It also works with firewire.

PS: I have another internal 80 GB HD from my failed [probably motherboard problem] emachine and may turn it into an external HD also. The external HD runs on a WinXP machine without installing anything. Won't work with my other old Win98, but is supposed to work with Win98SE.
