I disagree.

1) Ignore doesn't work as intended, 2) I get no peace of mind with the ignore feature, 3) People who use it, all agree that it serves a vote of disapproval function and little else. 4)Ignore blocks the posts in PM from even being submitted at all.

"That's the function of the ignore feature, which
can be implemented by anyone who chooses not to read
any other poster's posts, whether directed to them
or not."

Issue 1: Some people have a habit of posting a chain of several posts toorabout a particular poster they feel bound to needle, not so much on issue, as on who they are. Ignore doesn't prevent us from noticing such things and it is effective at causing anxt or posters wouldn't employ the technique. 'No to' prevents this and related interaction that has no benefit toward advancing rational discourse on issues.

Issue 2: Even if we couldn't see the posts that were posted to us in this fashion, we are aware that this is effecting the climate of discourse we engage in. So in this sense I would consider the ignore function more of a hindrance to clarity than an aid (if it even worked).

Issue 3: I like the new recommend feature. It allows us to demonstrate some sort of value we hold to particular comments or the quality of commentary from particular posters. I would also like to see some sort of disapproval feature. Some of the personal attack and thread raging might disipate if we had some other way of showing disapproval. Well we have rational comment but ... eh

Issue 4: Ignore isn't real and 'No to' is the only effective method of limiting personal address. It prohibits some posters from posting agravating or cruel comments in your personal direction on the public forum.

Bottom line is that it should never or seldom be called for, when it would be, I am still unconvinced that it is 'ridiculous.'
