"I wonder what would happen to the cost of Canadian health care if they lifted the price controls on prescription drugs." It would likely go up. But there are other benefits to the Canadian system. For one, doctors make less. But their expenses are far lower, they don't have to carry malpractice insurance. I haven't seen any recent figures, but at one point, malpractice insurance consumed a third of a typical doctor's income.
