CJ, For one, doctors make less. But their expenses are far lower, they don't have to carry malpractice insurance. I haven't seen any recent figures, but at one point, malpractice insurance consumed a third of a typical doctor's income.

You're talking about the doctors in private practice. Those employed by HMOs don't have to pay for malpractice, since their employers cover that. Of course, the pay scale and potential is less than that of private practice, but the risk is obviously lower as well.

Furthermore there has been a push to reform malpractice law, as many think that the lawsuits are getting out-of-hand. I don't see how universal health care is going to resolve this problem. If anything, the problem will be exacerbated as the entitlement mentality for health care expands.
