The other side of the coin is that once you've reached a point of establishment in your career, you start doing more of the things you enjoy doing vs. what you had to do to get there.

If CEO'ing becomes a pain in the arse, you hand somebody else that hat and go do your COO, CFO, BizDev, Sales, Government relations, CRM thing - or whatever. I.e., "..if it ain't fun anymore..", go do something else once a replacement is available.
