Um, not sure about Branson. The internals of Virgin are actually rather murky, financially... there are an awful lot of off-shore companies funnelling money around to each other in an obscure way. About one idea in ten is excellent, and these get sold off to keep the rest afloat (Virgin records, music stores, half the airline...). Virgin was public for a while - after the share price went steadily down, Branson bought it back (at a good profit for him) basically claiming he didn't like the public scrutiny and constraints on his actions.
Skilled entrepreneur, yes. Heart in right place, probably. Capitalist wheeler-dealer, certainly. Charismatic, sure. Reliable and steady, not... Good leader for the country??
OTOH I don't think he could f*ck things up more than the current leader, and no question Gore would have been a far superior choice for the US. Chances are you'd even have caught Bin Laden by now, not to mention saving a trillion or so on militaristic mindlessness... |
