yes i see your point on hedge funders and most other funders ! my dad lost a bundle when he left a lot of his hard earned cash in the hands of fund managers.
apart from anything else we see funders as folk who have millions of dollars available to invest and who have to find companies with large volumes traded. as we see it they generally have to target larger cap stocks and this doesn’t always mean they are looking at companies with the best of fundamentals. on the other hand we smaller guys can go for less volume traded and really sniff out those companies with great fundamentals. we can also buy in or sell without really affecting the price. funders with large invested volumes could make matters worse when they want to get out with a couple of million shares !

anyway after he decided to find out for himself how to analyse companies he did much better after that and encouraged me to do the same. he prefers to spend his time looking at and analysing individual companies and not being too concerned about indexes and market commentators ( but that’s just him ! he’s not a fan of that guy who does a lot of shouting on cnbc !).
this is one of the reasons i come to boards such as these to see what companies others are looking at and why.
speaking for me i’m only really interested in a company based on what i get out of its financial statements. like i said to Paul Kern i see risk in resource stocks because of that material price factor. u can see great numbers in their fundamentals most often when their material price is humming, but it’s not consistent enuf for me as u never know what will happen in a month or 2 if the oil, gold, etc price falls.

i see u run a portfolio which u comment on every month. is this just to show to others the performance of the shares u’ve chosen or is this a fund into which one can invest ?
