Abbas is a figurehead. His job was to go to New York, tell some soothing lies in English, and bring back some dough, without making Hamas shift any of its positions, which it doesn't have the ideological wiggle room to do, anyway. Guess he didn't bring back enough dough.

I don't worry about the Pals starving. If the AP and the BBC found even one malnourished kid in Gaza, we would be seeing his picture hundreds of times. The UN and NGOs are busy feeding people.

What is happening, is that the PA apparatchiks are not getting their salaries. These PA guys are mostly Fatah anyway, so Hamas doesn't have a big incentive to pay them. You may be sure that whatever money Hamas is getting under the table from Saudi Arabia and Iran is going to pay the HAMAS guys.

So far, the Pals seem to believe that the Quartet etc are so desperate to pay somebody to PRETEND to be a government of 'Palestine' that they can get their money anyway. It's an ongoing shakedown racket. The rest of the Muslim world tells the West that the Mideast will burn as long as the Palestinian issue remains unresolved, while the Muslim world makes damn sure that the issue can never be resolved. So the Muslim world gets its perpetual grievance and scapegoat, and the Pals collect the welfare check.
