ya, I've also seen a couple different references to commercial outfits making the conversions , but it is still very expensive, more than $20,000 for a Prius, but the costs are expected to come down quite a bit as conversions catch on (I think I saw a number of <$5000 within a year).

"Toyota said Tuesday it would offer a gasoline-electric hybrid with bigger batteries that could be recharged at any outlet, further stretching the gasoline the car uses. Though production is years away, experimental models built by independent mechanics have already demonstrated 100 mpg results."

I think you mentioned something about big Oils and collusion <g>. I think they could bring these to market in less than a year if they really wanted too. What a bunch of crap, "years away". I think the prospect of plugin hybrids has the major oils shaking in their boots.
