It wasn't just the lying that was obvious, his leaning forward and getting in Wallace's face, jabbing his forefinger and actually striking him a couple of times, or maybe he struck the clipboard he was holding. Either way, he was trying to intimidate and possibly threaten. That might be construed as assault in a court of law.

Easy to see how it came natural to him to threaten and intimidate the women who spoke up about his misdeeds.
