Iraq war could cost US over $2 trillion, says Nobel prize-winning economist

And I guess you also believe in Voodoo..

It's really sickening when economists permit themselves to play politics by making incredible leaps such as this..

It's like my announcing that the existence of Islamo-Fascist regimes spurring violence and regional tension has cost the global economy at least.. (let's see.. what number should pluck out??.. How about an even number??...) $5 Trillion in lost economic growth due to high oil prices and lost human potential due to de-emphasis on education and high birth rates.

And Stiglitz is projecting that we'll have the same level of effort in Iraq in 2010, with no basis for such an assumption, and then throws in an extra couple of hundred Billion for good measure...

Nor does he factor in the economic cost of what might happen were Iraq to break apart, and the Persians and Arabs opt to fight over Iraqi's oil reserves, launching a regional war.

And I know that, EVEN I, am not willing to commit that kind of time and effort to Iraq. If they can't get their act together by the middle of 2007, then the message must be sent that the Iraqis are not going to get serious about unifying their country, then we're going to let them look over that dark abyss...

And even though I've supported overthrowing Saddam and attempting to facilitate the realization of basic democratic values amongst the Iraqi people, I also know when we're getting to the point of throwing good money after bad.
