Elmer, re: "Deschutes will plug into a pentium II motherboard"

Only the initial version of it will, but NOT the version with separate L2 cache bus and Multiprocessor support. Only servers would care about multiprocessor support, but Slot2 Deschutes will include other features that everyone will want. {It} "will run at 100 MHz bus clock and come with a so called 'CSRAM' 2nd level cache that will run at CPU clock rather than 1/2 CPU clock in the Pentium II."

SLOT1 is stuck at 66 MHz by definition and therefore cannot last long. Don't waste your time on SLOT 1. Also, its size is totally unnecessary for a lower power 0.25 um design, unless Intel really screws up.
