Jerry, PMFJI...I realize you were responding to a Year 2000 issue, and I like you, and most folks here, believe Novell has the far superior products. Always has. And, it's refreshing to hear what sounds to be an excellent technical perspective on Novell's products. I have almost 10 years on old Novell products myself...2.x, 3.x. You almost sound like you might work at Novell? (IMO).
Hard to understand losing what for me is a significant amount of money on the stock. How could any group of competent people turn this once glorious company into the disaster it appears to be, with a million apparent chances along the way? (IMO).
I have learned the invaluable lesson with this stock that consistently better products is absolutely no guarantee of sucess. It's a big game...and Novell is a proven loser IMO. The game appears to simply be the *power of perceived credibility*. Who's company do you think will win...John Young/Eric Schmidt, Bill Gates?
I hope I'm wrong this time, and something incredible happens later in the year that shoots the stock up to 13...but c'mon, be realistic, look at the charts as VK says... look at at a 4 or 5 year chart. These facts, coupled with a strong likelyhood of a dissappointment shortly, and likely for Q1...suggest to me (IMO...and I argued this with myself and won) that from a purely historically speaking standpoint, the cards are really stacked against Novell at this point in time, and a buyout is this companies absolutely best bet at this point (IMO).
These guys can't really believe they're gonna pull it off at this point, can they? Nobody listens anymore. They've always had the better products, right? Does anyone argue that? MSFT will totally freeze the market with some crazy announcement if they ever feel threatened (IMO).
I hope they sell this company soon (IMO).
