The city is beyond emotional in connection with the reopening of the Superdome and the game with the Dirty Birds. It's been a long time since I've seen it like this.

I think it has to do with the incredible contrast between the sad, brutal and cruel events about a year ago and the present which, though far from "normal"--what's ever "normal" here, anyway?--is dying to pass a good time, like we used to.

U2 is playing, the Central Business District has been closed since about 3 pm. An enormous party and a huge emotional outpouring. This is bigger and a whole lot more genuine than the Super Bowl. We'll be even more delirious if we beat the Birds.

Unbelievable.

I'm truly impressed that the Dome is fixed in such short order. I really did think it was headed for demolition.

GOOOOOOO SAAAAINTS!!!!
