The dropping of gas prices is obvious manipulation. There is no rational reason for it to be happening otherwise. But a very good reason for them to erase this issue in peoples minds, because democrats will demand accountability for gas gouging and windfall profits taxes to repay the public, which they will then use to start a huge new clean fuels program.
