The thought of a revolution of homeowners and apartment dwellers with rooftop solar panels and mini windmills charging banks of batteries to recharge their HPEV's indeed has me giddy <g>

People who've never experienced living off solar power have a hard time relating to the giddiness of which you speak.

Our vacation place is solar powered. Our best friends in that neighborhood live off solar year round and routinely sell power to the utility company. We could as well but are instead completely off the grid. Power wise, it is as if our house doesn't even exist.

You'd of course never know any of this, judging from looking around or living on our friends' or our property -- none of us is making any concessions because of solar. Quite the contrary. Got a ton of rechargeable battery powered tools, of course, even our Bully lawn mower is rechargeable. Can't wait to be able to plug in the car!

And, should push come to shove and all hell break lose -- natural or man made -- well, no better place to sit, fold one's arms and wait for it to blow over, than a solar powered one.

Nothing like living off this silent, clean, free power. Nothing. Makes one's heart sing.
