Here's another eye-opener on health care in Canada, in the April 20, 2006, New England Journal of Medicine (free full text). 40 weeks for orthopedic surgery. More than five weeks for oncology surgery.

I was very upset when my brother, in Tucson, had to wait two weeks, because I could have gotten him his surgery done here in Fairfax VA in less than a week, but he was willing to wait so he could recuperate at home.
