Alaska’s Frank Murkowski Loses Primary, “Wins” Last Place in SurveyUSA Rankings

Verona NJ – September 21, 2006 – Seventeen months ago, when SurveyUSA began tracking the approval ratings of the nation’s governors, Ohio Republican Bob Taft came in dead last, with a Minus 55 Net Job Approval. Little has changed for Taft; today, the Ohio governor has a Net Job Approval of Minus 58, basically unchanged since tracking began – but he is no longer in last place. Instead, it’s Alaska Republican Frank Murkowski, who lost a primary election challenge a month ago. Today, Murkowski has a Net Job Approval of Minus 68, which ties Taft’s February number as the lowest ever recorded in the 50 separate but concurrent statewide public opinion polls SurveyUSA conducts for its media clients around the country each month.
