Anyone who is paying any attention at all already has a settled opinion on whether or not the Dems are weak on defense. One more utterance from a past president, on whom everyone also already has an settled opinion, hardly matters.

The independent voter is keeping a very close eye on events.

Indeed. Being independent is not the same as being oblivious. You'd have to be pretty oblivious to not have considered where the parties are coming from re defense.
