KARACHI: President Pervez Musharraf’s memoir, “In The Line Of Fire,” received an overwhelming response in the city especially amongst the well-to-do including those who are critical of him as over 2,000 copies were sold within 48 hours of the book’s launch.
“We have been booking advance orders of this book since the last one month and upon its launch on Monday we received 1,200 orders in a day. Today (on Tuesday) the response was overwhelming and demand has been steady,” said Francis D’souza, the manager of Liberty Books, the exclusive distributors of the President’s memoir, at Park Towers in Clifton.
The manager said that one could estimate the response of people from the fact that some of their outlets ran out of the book and additional copies were sent to them in order to meet the demand. “I can’t give the exact number but over 2,000 copies have been sold in just two days,” he added.
He said that from teenaged girls and boys to people in their 60s and 70s - all were buying the President’s memoir, which is available for Rs1,295. Also, government officials and politicians bought this book showing great interest. Interestingly, people who were critical of Musharraf were also seen buying this book.

At the entrance of Park Towers, this correspondent saw a friend who is a government official, with a copy of Musharraf’s memoir in hands. “I am here because my boss ordered me to purchase and read the President’s book immediately. I think soon it would become mandatory for all government servants to read this book,” he sarcastically added.
“I like President Musharraf very much and I think he is a role model for all Pakistanis. I want to read more and more about him and therefore I came to buy this book,” said Shehla Khan, a law student. |
