New Zealand military expenditures as a percentage of GDP = 1%. (Same as Canada and Japan.)

I've been watching Chinese commercials touting the wonders of China for tourists coming to the Olympics. So far, every commercial I've seen mentions the Chinese Army in glowing terms, which seems rather curious to me (e.g., students saying that they want to study hard and make good grades so they can go into the army.)

Chinese military expenditures as a percentage of GDP = 4%. (Same as US.)
