The ingenuity of man is limitless. Retaliation can be subtle and insidious, as obvious as being hit over the head with an anvil, or something in between. If you're talking strictly within the confines of legal retribution, it depends on the lie. Lies under oath on material issues are perjury, a criminal offense. Ask Mark Furman about that one. Making allegations in a complaint, with malice and lack of probable cause, can give rise to a tort cause of action in favor of the person originally sued, provided he obtains a favorable termination of the first action.
