There are many roots, imo. But "rooted" implies a major force (and people frequently imply one root when they write about "rootedness", and readers often infer that as well), and I don't see marxism as a major force in the left. Clearly some conservatives do, but that's like saying conservatism is "rooted" in fascism- it has about the same truth to it, and it's just designed to be a poke in the eye. Certainly a lot of today's articles are merely pokes in some collective eye, but when I see that I tend to write off the article as unfortunately prejudiced. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy the pokes "my side" gets in, but it does mean I recognize them, and I don't find much to learn from them.
