It seems to me that the way Dale defined it and the way the author defined it are, in essence, the same. It's just that Dale didn't use the dreaded "M" word. I understand the aversion to the "M" word, particularly when not counterbalanced by the "F" word, the other "F" word for the other side.

I doubt the author meant "Marxist" as a slur. He is, after all, supposed to be a centrist.
