There are 2 issues here. The first one I agree with you on. That being assumption that the taxes being paid by the top 1% increasing is not at all due to the change in tax rates. I would say that it is due entirely to the top 1% making more money than ever before, therefore paying more in taxes. Maybe that's too much common sense for some, but it shows how he twisted his information.

The second issue is that he declared that the top 1% is paying more as a % in 2004 than 2000. He never established this. He also never established that the bottom 50% are paying less in 2004 than they did in 2000. It may be true. Actually it makes sense to me that the top 1% are making more than they did in 2000 and the bottom 50% are making less than they did in 2000, but it is still totally sloppy to just put it out there as a declaration without any backup.
