We have something in common Ken..

I dabble in watercolors too. I collected dozens of old and new books on technique and style. Having finished a few pieces and working on composition and perspective I am reading, reading, reading about the complexity of color. The vast subtleties of mixing to achieve the right combination is a science in its own right.

I've worked on drawing and I at least manage to do a good enough job of depicting fixed objects in order to compose a scene. It is important to understand all of the elements that go into a finished work. I could stand to take some instruction, but have managed well on my own. I've always been competent at understanding instructions, and so I forge ahead on my own.

People seem to like what I do even despite the fact that I am a real novice.

I have a friend in Oregon who studied art in college. He started out using watercolors but graduated to acrylics years ago. I've been tempted to try them, but I need to get a bit more confidence before I do.
