That's an interesting situation. If a cop is working under cover trying to inflitrate the mafia, admitting to being a LEO could be hazardous to his health. But some vice cop pretending to be a pimp or a hooker in order to run a sting (ie, entrap), well, that seems like something else again. I'd think the rule of thumb to follow would be, "never believe anything a cop tells you." Har! Especially if he denies being a cop! <G>
