Er... you mean 'tested lasers' strong enough to do so.

and, yes, they did.

The US also has this capability (one of the reasons the 'Star Wars' concept of interceptors and space-based sats. is not cost effective --- the COUNTER MEASURES are *so much cheaper*!)

An even CHEAPER method of 'taking out the eyes in the sky' (without sats, you would not have reliable launch detection, nor ballistic tracking info...), that is WELL KNOWN would be the so-called 'Keg of Nails'.

(Send a missile payload containing a bunch of ball bearings up to the appropriate orbit, in a counter-orbit to spy sats., then blow it. The kinetic kill will take out every sat in that orbital path. Only big draw-back is that the scrap will stay in orbit for perhaps hundreds of years... and prevent *anyone* from having working sats in those orbital areas for a LONG TIME to come....)

North Korea, for just one, has already threatened this as a CHEAP counter-measure to the billions we are spending on our 'missile defense system'.
