Hi Michael, >>Seriouly interested in UMAX PC, what do others in imaging think?

What I do is generate my requirements, i.e. what am I going to use the system for, cost of ownership traded off against maintainability, ease of use and reliability. One of the things that has driven me to MAC's is ease of use and plug and play. People do not spend all their time messing with the computer but spend their time getting their job done. Now if you are working at the low end of imaging instead of the high end where you need a lot of power you may not need the MAC's performance. My tests show that the PC has large overhead, but you will have to run your applications work to evaluate that part of the equation. The MAC is also more efficient in its use of disk and ram space. The other critical thing to evaluate is your output. Can you get the quality of delivered product from the PC. The MAC is seamless if you want high quality product output.

I am not pushing the MAC just trying to give you some of the tradeoff results I came up with.

Joan
