RMF, do you really believe the Democrats are capable of balancing the budget? It took a Republican congress under Newt Gingrich to get spending under control during the 90s. The Democrats were not happy when Clinton & Gingrich cooperated to shrink the national debt with deep welfare cuts. Clinton does deserve some recognition for his cooperation at that time, however he's the only Democrat in recent history to advocate less government spending rather than more.

Wars are extremely expensive and it's not as though we have a choice to fight or not-- the Islamic terrorists have declared war on Americans. I understand the Republicans have recently taken steps to expose the sneaky earmarks hogs with a searchable on-line national budget. Hopefully it will help.
