Hi gg,
and i know the positives far outweigh the negatives
OK, I agree completely. I've not said otherwise... When I say I see no viable alternative (to our system) I am admittedly not upbeat enough :o)

must take personal responsibility
No argument here. We have free annual checkups and free 24/7 service (clinics and emergency) when we suspect or note a problem, free flu shots and many vaccinations .... and I am very grateful. It is a HUGE improvement in my lifetime (I'm 50). I've previously recounted how my parents would have been bankrupted by our medical problems had it not been for a generous extended family. Today in our system that would be a moot issue. We take full advantage of these valuable benefits in our house. I often notice that the doctors in walk-in clinics are accepting new patients so I am perplexed at the number of folks that have no family doctor. Seems the media likes to report the negative side mostly of a seeming lack of family practitioners. I guess they should visit some of these walk-in clinics :o)

My family member's predicament is unfortunate. Regular type checkups detected nothing and she was completely asymptomatic. Her surgery next week is free and scheduled quickly after the MRI results and followups. My only beef (the big BUT ;O) is why the wait would be so long for an MRI in a case with an identified issue with such high probability of a soon to be fatal problem.

regards
Al
