nihil; Read your license agreement. Sort of a rape permit for MSFT. No warranty, no responsibility, just the right to buy the next bug fix, I mmena upgrade. I have often wondered why the state departments of consumer affairs do not crack down on this in the same way they have warranty laws on physical objects.
It seems to me that this could help.
Of course MSFT gives away the bug fixes, so you could say they do provide warranty, and they do send out betas for free to find the bugs, so I can see that MSFT does try to avoid bugs, but the job is huge, with thousands of programs, add-ons etc it is hard for them to test all potential combinations. Better to use the 'customer quality control facilities' that we provide.
How would you handle this problem? Test for two more years?
I think they are correctly holding Win98 until mid summer to save early bugs and client indecision from causing market problems across a broad front. In addition, it could also be a sea of bugs, all found in the early betas, and it will take a long time to fix.
Has anyone played with a Win98 beta/bootleg from the web?

Bill
