Yep Haqi, I grew up in Polk County (headed north in '77). I knew and had respect for some of the personal on the department while living there and had zero doubts about their ability to handle that situation.

I would not be surprised to hear some crap about the bastard "not getting his chance to surrender" before this is over. Anybody that thinks that needs to spend a few minutes stumbling around in that undergrowth expecting to be fired upon at any second.

There was a case many years ago, where the deputy was facing a crazed man with a sling blade. He shot the man in the thigh trying to avoid using lethal force, failing to stop him, the other thigh was shot. Severed both main arteries and the guy bled out. I thought the deputy performed over and above his duty in that situation.
