Some numbers from a Barron's article ...

By year-end 2010, Verizon thinks it could attract seven million FiOS Internet customers. That would be 40% of reachable homes, instead of the 30% penetration that Verizon originally anticipated. Verizon thinks it could also win four million FiOS TV customers by 2010, which represents 25% of the homes that would be video-reachable by that time.

Verizon's capital spending on FiOS is running about 8% higher than it expected, according to numbers disclosed Wednesday. At the end of August, the infrastructure cost to fiber-enable a neighborhood was $873 per home, with an additional cost to connect each subscribing home of $933. By 2010, however, Verizon bets those costs will fall to $700 and $650, respectively, while it saves on operating expenses in comparison with its copper-wired network.
