Ok, that is just plain STUPID. The end user does not care how Intel gets 4 cores on 1 part that plugs into 1 socket. They only care about its performance, performance per watt, and perf per watt per $.

As Intel and others have repeatedly pointed out, there are tradeoffs between a monolithic QC and an MCM QC. The advantages are time-to-market and various yield advantages. Performance might be slightly lower, but when AMD has no QC to compete for 6 months, who cares?

And, no, 2-socket workstation boards are not an answer, whether you call them 4x4 or not. Intel already sells those through Apple and everybody else, and will therefore be offering "8x8" come November.
