The fused silica shortage is not new news. It is ~12 months old.
The ramp up is well underway, that is why the shortfall is expected
to be under control by 3-6/98. The FS shortage and any delay it
causes in stepper/scanner shipments is SHORT term. The semiconductor
industry can not and will not tolerate anything else.

Cymer may not have the clout to move the FS and stepper/scanner
industry, but the semi's do and will/have used it. No semi wants
(can afford) to allow his competition to implement 248nm before
they are able to.
