<I have several friends, my G*dsons grandpa is one, who were abused by priests. > Several? That's a lot! How come so many? I can't think of anyone I know who has been sexually abused as a child, though I had a 17 year old homosexual friend [40 years ago] who reckoned he was press-ganged into a homosexual act. It seemed to me at the time as one of consent and that he was disturbed more by what he was finding out about himself than by the act. I don't think he told me how old the guy was, but I think it was probably somebody in their 20s or possibly 30s [don't know].

I think I'll avoid priests and keep any youngsters I have anything to do with away from them too. It has always seemed weird and horrible to me to hang an effigy of some bloke nailed to a cross, then threatening children with fire and brimstone in hell if they are bad. That's child abuse! Psychic terror.

I suppose the idea is that showing what happens to naughty people - nailed up there - will keep people in line. That was the original purpose of nailing people up for public view, and all the other public hideous cruelties inflicted on hordes of people over the millennia.

I'd want to talk to the page before getting too worked up. <Rape is just that, and politicians are in a position of authority over the pages. If this is a case of someone using the power of his position to have sex with a page, then yes I would hang him. If he was not guilty of a crime then I hope he finds help. >

What if the page is like my friend = maybe a bit confused, but basically in favour of it? Hanging seems a bit dire for such a thing. There is no "power of their position" conferred in being a Senator which entitles them to rape, and they are specifically enjoined NOT to use their position for sexual purposes. Which is why Clinton got in trouble with soliciting sex. Where's the power? If anything, they leave themselves open to blackmail and prosecution, as Clinton found.
