TXN TI said to be seeing extended lead time for analog ICs - Digitimes (32.96 )

Digitimes reports tight capacity for analog-IC production has not only been observed at Taiwan foundries but also at IDMs such as Texas Instruments, which has seen its delivery lead time extended to over eight weeks, according to sources at distributors. Preparation for the new Microsoft operating system (OS) Vista among distributors and system makers is the main reason for the recent buoyant demand for analog ICs, the sources explained. The recent growth in seasonal demand as well as pre-stocking activities among industry players further aggravates the issue. Although TI declined to comment, sources at the company contended that lead times are not delayed, but that the normal delivery time for analog vendors is usually 8 to 12 weeks during times of tight capacity and strong demand. The distributors noted that TI's overall analog lead time has been extended, with audio-related solutions in particular shortage. Even when running at full utilization rates at its 6-inch fabs and some of its 8-inch fabs, TI is still unable to fulfill demand completely, especially demand from system makers and Taiwan motherboard makers, the sources added. Maxim (MXIM), a US-based analog-IC supplier, is also said to be encountering a similar situation.
