Ichy, you miss the point.

It's not a question of whether Foley was guilty of a crime. It's not a question of whether Democrats have done similar things. It's not even a question of whether Foley's acts would make a moderate person throw up.

The point is that for about 20% of the population the line between patriotism, Republicanism and religion has blurred. the process was accelerated by the Clinton scandal. Those people viewed the Republican party as the "Party of God." Any attack on the party or on one of its representatives was often met with conviction and outrage.

That's starting to crumble now. The money scandals they could handle. Losing lives in Iraq, without benefit, was troubling but then "God works in mysterious ways." But the Foley matter is different. The man, and his party leadership, are seen as acting in a Godless manner. It challenges the "faith" of the faithful.

Once the crack is there then they may take an objective look at the opposition and lose the confused religious, patriotic political fervor that made them close their minds to any option other than the "party of God."

That's what's at stake. Ed
