it just isn't carrying a road tax. Is not being taxed a subsidy? "1998 The ethanol subsidy is extended through 2007 but will be gradually reduced. The ethanol subsidy of 54 cents per gallon will be reduced gradually to 51 cents per gallon in 2005." eia.doe.gov That's in addition to any subsidies the corn growers get. My understanding is they get no direct subsidy connected to the corn becoming ethanol but they do get other types of subsidies from the government. As for not being taxed I wouldn't really call that a subsidy but the competitive effect is the same, if the competitor is taxed.
