RESEARCH ALERT - Cymer downgraded

NEW YORK, Sept 26 (Reuter) - Morgan Stanley Dean Witter downgraded Cymer Inc to a neutral from a strong buy, the Wall Street firm said on
Friday.

Morgan said in a research note that it is lowering its 1997 laser unit shipment for Cymer to 431 from 461, and to 500 from 640 for 1998.
The target price for Cymer was lowered to $30 from $46.
The earnings estimate for 1997 was cut to $0.76 per share from $0.84, and the 1998 estimate went to $1.00 from $1.15.
While Cymer's laser shipments likely will plateau or see modest near-term reductions, and while its competitors are gaining ground, Cymer
``should remain the class act and dominant supplier in the fastest-growing segment of the equipment industry.''
