Seems backward - the shallowest pipe stages are in the DEC Alpha
chips, which also have some of the simplest architectures. There
is a continuum from the super fast clock "speed demons" to the
architecturally very complex "brainiacs". Cyrix takes advantage
of architectural refinements to get performance.

The Alpha benchmarks are competitive only because they run the
clock about twice as fast as anyone else. Clock speed is one of
the poorer parameters to make comparisons with.
