Kiriwuth,

The PC games/multimedia really push our need to
continually upgrade. While the need to upgrade every
so often is undesireable from a cost point of view,
I do like the advances in game technology and am
willing to upgrade as necessary. A P133 is now
becomming a minimum requirement to many of the new
games coming out. In response to your previous
message, I like to see the games fully utilizing
the CPU capability of the PC. However; the newest
games are pushing up the modem/network transfer
speed requirements as well which is a dual edged
sword for me. I have a 28.8k modem, to go any faster
in real practice requires an ISDN line (For home
use). I am not too keen on paying the extra money
for an ISDN line, but the day will come when I will
probally be forced to make that commitment. Serious
gamers that can afford this will make the transition.
Game developers know this. I just recently had a
minor upgrade to a P200 (because it was cheap) to
accommadate the new stuff coming out. I have had
minimal lag time associated with all of Total
Annihilation (TA). Mostly when I have had a huge number
of units all acting at once. The other titles may
not see any lag because they don't have the capabilites
that TA has to offer. Dark Reign (which I regard as an
inferrior game) also requires you to buy separate
copies for each modem player. TA allows you to spawn
up to three copies. Overall more bang for the buck
with TA.
